Am I Becoming a Pop Tart???

I can't get two top forty songs out of my head lately and that pop brain washing continued this morning. I was getting ready for work and I saw the videos on VH1 back to back. What are these omnipresent foot tappers you ask? Well they could be no two songs other than Gold Digger By Kanye West and My Humps by the Black Eyed Peas.

I say Ralph Reed or David Lee Roth. (Bush steals every idea from Howard Stern).

Eminent Domain -- The US Government Can Now Seize Your Shit At Will And Give it to Whoever They Want

The City of Jersey City, NJ wants to seize this guy's bar and give the property to St.Peter's Prep, a Private Catholic High School. Why would they do this you ask? To add a new science lab, expand classrooms to accomodate the growing population? How about to add 7 yards to their FUCKING FOOTBALL FIELD!

Plus they act like this poor guy, who's just trying to make an honest living is standing in their way. They have the attitude that they deserve the property.

"St. Peter's Prep, a respected institution with powerful political ties, argues that after spending years and about $4 million assembling property for much-needed athletic fields, it is being held up unfairly by Tan."

What assholes! What fucking country is this???

When Did Boobs Become Evil

When did tits become so dangerous? As a hetrosexual male, I enjoy, no I think worship is a better word, boobs. I always connect them to joy. A friend of mine is fond of saying "There's no such thing as bad boobies" He altered that slightly after seeing Something About Mary.

A naked breast changed what we are allowed to see or hear on tv and radio. That's powerful. But powerful for the wrong reason -- Fear. Don't fear boobies, celebrate them.

Or move to Virginia.

Parents Against Bad Schools: Complaints About Books

From October 2005 Harpers Magazine:

From the "Sample book review documentation form" supplied by the Fairfax, Virginia activist group Parents Against Bad Books in Schools, for use by parents when registering a complaint in a school library:

1. Does the book contain any sexual content? Indicate level of vividness, using the following as a gen'l guide:
Basic - large breasts
Graphic - large, voluptuous, bouncing breasts
Very graphic - larage, voluptuous, bouncing breats with hard nipples
Extremely graphic - larage, voluptuous, bouncing breats with hard nipples convered with glistening sweat and bite marks

I don't know about you, but that "extremely graphic" category seems pretty hot.

Free Blogger Poker Tourney

I did horribly. I was up early to about $6,000 in chips. I think I was like 84th or something definately in the money, but it was very early. I got into one hand in a big way and lost about half my stack. I didn't see what the other player had ahead of time and misread the hand and lost half my stack.

The hand I went out on was badly played by me. I had $1650 and got dealt Tc Ks. I just called for $150. It was me and the Blinds. Flop comes Ts 6s 4d. I figure I've got the Pair of Tens and probably top kicker, and a flush draw.

Meanwhile my friend calls me and says why I'm not at our Sunday bowling league...he says "You'll never win anything get down here".

The small blind checks. The Big Blind bets $300. I rasie $1,200 all in. The small blind calls. The Big Blind folds.

We turn over the cards. Small shows As 4s. He's on a flush draw. He gets his spade 9s, and I'm done.

Boo Hoo. I suck. No Xbox or trip to the Bahamas for me.

Doing better at poker

poker ace king hold em
I have my weekly poker game tonight. I didn't play last week because I took the kids to go see My Chemical Romance at the Meadowlands (they played a cover of the Misfits' Astro Zombies, which was cool).

My first week I finished 12th out of 16 people the week after that 11th out of 21. So I did better the second week. That second week I got absoloutley no cards. Every time I got an Ace or King there was a three or four to go with it. Not good.

I've been reading Dan Harrington's book Harrington on Holdem, and I read most of David Sklansky's book, so I'm hoping I'm getting better over time. My goal tonight is to make the final table.

Wish me luck!

Large Penis is Always Welcome

I've been watching this show Rome on HBO. This rich woman who is trying to curry favor of another rich woman is going to send her a bunch of gifts. One is a slave with a schlauncey the size of a bagette, it's hanging out and all prettied up with ribbon...The daughter says that the mother is wrong to try and get this other woman to be her friend after she previously treated the other woman like shit. And the the mother says "Large Penis is Always Welcome."

Nice!

Arkansas Mother Gives Birth to 16th Child

By MELISSA NELSON, Associated Press Writer Wed Oct 12, 7:48 PM ET

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Michelle Duggar just delivered her 16th child, and she's already thinking about doing it again.

Johannah Faith Duggar was born at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday and weighed 7 pounds, 6.5 ounces.

The baby's father, Jim Bob Duggar, a former state representative, said Wednesday that mother and child were doing well.

He said Johannah's birth was especially exciting because it was the first time in eight years the family has had a girl.

Jim Bob Duggar, 40, said he and Michelle, 39, want more children.

"We both just love children and we consider each a blessing from the Lord. I have asked Michelle if she wants more and she said yes, if the Lord wants to give us some she will accept them," he said.

The Discovery Health Channel filmed Johannah's birth and plans to air a show about the family of 18 next May.

The Learning Channel is doing another show about the family's construction project, a 7,000-square foot house that should be finished before Christmas. The home, which the family has been building for two years, will have nine bathrooms, dormitory-style bedrooms for the girls and boys, a commercial kitchen, four washing machines and four dryers.

Jim Bob Duggar, who sells real estate, previously lost his bid for the U.S. Senate. He said he expects to run for the state Senate next year but isn't ready to make a formal announcement.

Michelle Duggar had her first child at age 21, four years after the couple married.

Their children include two sets of twins, and each child has a name beginning with the letter "J": Joshua, 17; John David, 15; Janna, 15; Jill, 14; Jessa, 12; Jinger, 11; Joseph, 10; Josiah, 9; Joy-Anna, 8; Jeremiah, 6; Jedidiah, 6; Jason, 5; James, 4; Justin, 2; and Jackson Levi, 1.

PARENTS TO BLAME FOR SCHOOL YOBS
They have to learn to say no, says head
By Lachlan Mackinnon

A LEADING Scots headteacher has claimed parents who won't say "no" to their children are making life harder for schools.

Education expert Mike Beale said teachers are increasingly having to tell mums and dads to stand up to their kids.

He insisted that discipline at home is essential for learning and attacked the idea that families had to be "democracies".

Speaking at an education conference in Edinburgh yesterday, Beale said: "Heads are too often at the centre of trying to educate parents that it is okay to say no to their children.

"It is essential to draw lines for those children beyond which they are not permitted to go.

"It is not essential that families are democracies.

"My heart still sinks when mum or dad say to me that they have made a decision, they don't really like it, but Maggie Rose really wants this, that, or the other and they are afraid not to agree.

"After all, we have to be best friends.

"I'm afraid the reasoning still has to be that parents, like heads, have to say no sometimes because they know best"Values have been learned before school begins. Language development in the first two years determines the pace of learning for ever more.

"Yet, school and teachers are held responsible for any shortcomings that children demonstrate as they pass through their education."

Beale is head of the independent Craigclowan School near Perth.

He is also chairman of the Incorporated Association of Preparatory Schools, who represent more than 500 private schools in the UK and abroad.

He added: "Roots come from discipline and appreciating that the pain of hard work is nothing like the pain of disappointment, from lines being drawn and by not being afraid to say no."

At a reception with Tony Blair in Downing Street last month, Craigclowan was recognised for "ensuring that young people receive the best start in life

Playing Poker

I found a regular game to play in. It's a bit of a hike (about an hour) but the people are cool and it's only $22 to buy in. So now I'll be playing every Thursday. I'm hoping to play better over time.

I'm at the point where when I do make mistakes I can look back at them and see what I should have done better.

One hand that ate up a chunk of my stack. I had 76o. The blinds were 50 and 25, I was big blind and no one raised, so I checked. Flop comes A7A. I think nice, unless someone has an ace I'm in pretty good shape. guy UTG+1 bets 100. fold, fold, fold, fold to me I call. (Here's where I should have raised to see if he had the Ace.)

Next card is a ten. I check it. bettor bets 100. I call again, should have rasied there too. River is Jack, bettor bets 100 I call again. He flips over 89 for a straight.

I need to put more pressure on, when I have a playable hand. I was afraid he had the Ace. I should have bet to find out.

Here's Your Daily Beer

Enjoy!

How long till this thing has it's own reality show?

Bill Bennett: "[Y]ou could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down"

This is from Media Matters.org. There is audio of this on that site.

Addressing a caller's suggestion that the "lost revenue from the people who have been aborted in the last 30 years" would be enough to preserve Social Security's solvency, radio host and former Reagan administration Secretary of Education Bill Bennett dismissed such "far-reaching, extensive extrapolations" by declaring that if "you wanted to reduce crime ... if that were your sole purpose, you could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down." Bennett conceded that aborting all African-American babies "would be an impossible, ridiculous, and morally reprehensible thing to do," then added again, "but the crime rate would go down."

Bennett's remark was apparently inspired by the claim that legalized abortion has reduced crime rates, which was posited in the book Freakonomics (William Morrow, May 2005) by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner. But Levitt and Dubner argued that aborted fetuses would have been more likely to grow up poor and in single-parent or teenage-parent households and therefore more likely to commit crimes; they did not put forth Bennett's race-based argument.

From the September 28 broadcast of Salem Radio Network's Bill Bennett's Morning in America:

CALLER: I noticed the national media, you know, they talk a lot about the loss of revenue, or the inability of the government to fund Social Security, and I was curious, and I've read articles in recent months here, that the abortions that have happened since Roe v. Wade, the lost revenue from the people who have been aborted in the last 30-something years, could fund Social Security as we know it today. And the media just doesn't -- never touches this at all.

BENNETT: Assuming they're all productive citizens?

CALLER: Assuming that they are. Even if only a portion of them were, it would be an enormous amount of revenue.

BENNETT: Maybe, maybe, but we don't know what the costs would be, too. I think as -- abortion disproportionately occur among single women? No.

CALLER: I don't know the exact statistics, but quite a bit are, yeah.

BENNETT: All right, well, I mean, I just don't know. I would not argue for the pro-life position based on this, because you don't know. I mean, it cuts both -- you know, one of the arguments in this book Freakonomics that they make is that the declining crime rate, you know, they deal with this hypothesis, that one of the reasons crime is down is that abortion is up. Well --

CALLER: Well, I don't think that statistic is accurate.

BENNETT: Well, I don't think it is either, I don't think it is either, because first of all, there is just too much that you don't know. But I do know that it's true that if you wanted to reduce crime, you could -- if that were your sole purpose, you could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down. That would be an impossible, ridiculous, and morally reprehensible thing to do, but your crime rate would go down. So these far-out, these far-reaching, extensive extrapolations are, I think, tricky.

Bill Bennett's Morning in America airs on approximately 115 radio stations with an estimated weekly audience of 1.25 million listeners.

It's Talk Like A PIrate Day Today!

For those of you who don't know where to start here's some help from talklikeapirate.com:

The basics

Pirate lingo is rich and complicated, sort of like a good stew. There are several other sites that offer glossaries that are pretty good, and you can find some of them on our links page.

But if you just want a quick fix, a surface gloss, a "pirate patina," if you will, here are the five basic words that you cannot live without. Master them, and you can face Talk Like a Pirate Day with a smile on your face and a parrot on your shoulder, if that's your thing.

Ahoy! - "Hello!"

Avast! - Stop and give attention. It can be used in a sense of surprise, "Whoa! Get a load of that!" which today makes it more of a "Check it out" or "No way!" or "Get off!"

Aye! - "Why yes, I agree most heartily with everything you just said or did."

Aye aye! - "I'll get right on that sir, as soon as my break is over."

Arrr! - This one is often confused with arrrgh, which is of course the sound you make when you sit on a belaying pin. "Arrr!" can mean, variously, "yes," "I agree," "I'm happy," "I'm enjoying this beer," "My team is going to win it all," "I saw that television show, it sucked!" and "That was a clever remark you or I just made." And those are just a few of the myriad possibilities of Arrr!
Advanced pirate lingo; or On beyond “Aarrr!”

Once you've mastered the basics, you're ready to start expanding your pirate vocabulary. Try these for starters

Beauty – The best possible pirate address for a woman. Always preceded by “me,” as in, “C’mere, me beauty,” or even, “me buxom beauty,” to one particularly well endowed. You’ll be surprised how effective this is.

Bilge rat – The bilge is the lowest level of the ship. It’s loaded with ballast and slimy, reeking water. A bilge rat, then, is a rat that lives in the worst place on the ship. On TLAP Day – A lot of guy humor involves insulting your buddies to prove your friendship. It’s important that everyone understand you are smarter, more powerful and much luckier with the wenches than they are. Since bilge rat is a pretty dirty thing to call someone, by all means use it on your friends.

Bung hole – Victuals on a ship were stored in wooden casks. The stopper in the barrel is called the bung, and the hole is called the bung hole. That’s all. It sounds a lot worse, doesn’t it? On TLAP Day – When dinner is served you’ll make quite an impression when you say, “Well, me hearties, let’s see what crawled out of the bung hole.” That statement will be instantly followed by the sound of people putting down their utensils and pushing themselves away from the table. Great! More for you!

Grog – An alcoholic drink, usually rum diluted with water, but in this context you could use it to refer to any alcoholic beverage other than beer, and we aren’t prepared to be picky about that, either. Call your beer grog if you want. We won’t stop you! Water aboard ship was stored for long periods in slimy wooden barrels, so you can see why rum was added to each sailor’s water ration – to kill the rancid taste. On TLAP Day – Drink up, me hearties! And call whatever you’re drinking grog if you want to. If some prissy pedant purses his lips and protests the word grog can only be used if drinking rum and water, not the Singapore Sling you’re holding, keelhaul him!

Hornpipe – Both a single-reeded musical instrument sailors often had aboard ship, and a spirited dance that sailors do. On TLAP Day – We are not big fans of the capering, it’s not our favorite art form, if you will, so we don’t have a lot to say on the subject, other than to observe that the common term for being filled with lust is “horny,” and hornpipe then has some comical possibilities. “Is that a hornpipe in your pocket, or are you just glad to see me? Or both?”

Lubber – (or land lubber) This is the seaman’s version of land lover, mangled by typical pirate disregard for elocution. A lubber is someone who does not go to sea, who stays on the land. On TLAP Day – More likely than not, you are a lubber 364 days of the year. But not if you’re talking like a pirate! Then the word lubber becomes one of the more fierce weapons in your arsenal of piratical lingo. In a room where everyone is talking like pirates, lubber is ALWAYS an insult.

Smartly – Do something quickly. On TLAP Day – “Smartly, me lass,” you might say when sending the bar maid off for another round. She will be so impressed she might well spit in your beer.

So You Wanna Be A "Hooters" Girl?

A peek at the beloved boobs-and-beer emporium's employee handbook (from The Smoking Gun)

SEPTEMBER 15--"Only approved Orange Hooters Girl Shorts are to be worn, sized to fit, and should NOT BE SO TIGHT THAT THE BUTTOCKS SHOW." That's just one of the important "image and grooming standards" addressed in the beer and boob emporium's entertaining employee handbook. The "essence" of the chain, the handbook notes, is "entertainment through female sex appeal, of which the LOOK is a key part." While there are too many amusing parts in the handbook to point out, here's hoping that none of the buxom waitresses run afoul of the chain's Pantyhose Police. The 52-page handbook, a copy of which we found attached as an exhibit to a recent federal lawsuit, also requires Hooters Girls to sign a statement recognizing that they might be on the receiving end of some randy patron comments: "I hereby acknowledge...the work environment is one in which joking and innuendo based on female sex appeal is commonplace." But imagine how much worse it would be if they flashed a little cheek.

Take a look at this picture. He's gone from a pig-nosed dancing boy from the city in Footloose to a getting really creepy looking old guy. And I don't think he's even that old, but he's starting to look like he might end up looking like the fifth memeber of the Rolling Stones.

Fuck Michal Brown

"Federal Emergency Management Director Michael Brown told CNN that federal officials were unaware of the crowds at the convention center until Thursday, despite the fact that city officials had been telling people for days to gather there."

That's funny, becasue everyone else in America has known about it since the minute it happened.

Could you imagine what would happen if there was a disaster in more than one area of the country? Maybe the survivalists have a point.

Don't depend on the government for anything.

Impeach Bush NOW!

This administration is the most incompetent ever. Why has it been 5 days and virtually no relief has gone to those poor people in New Orleans?

Harry Connick was on the Today Show this morning there where all those people are basically living in the street with no food or water. He said he was able to drive right up there.

Why hasn't the Federal Government driven tractor trailers of food water, medicine, and doctors to these people???

Bush jumps to respond to events around the world yet he lets the poor sit and die in the worst American disaster ever.

You disgust me President Bush.

The Most Rediculous Performance Ever

Last night I saw the most rediculous musical performance ever. R Kelly performed his craptacular song/speech/soap opera Trapped in the Closet ay the Video Music awards.

He acted out the many parts of what may be one of the worst songs ever recorded. At one point in the song there are three or four people in the room all being acted/sung by Kelley. If anyone knows what the hell is going on in this song let me know.

I'm sure MTV will be rerunning the show endlessly over the next couple of weeks. So if you didn't see it you can still be impressed by the high levels of suckitude in this performance.

Today's sign of the impending apacolypse

Hillary Duff has the number one album in the US.

I try to have broad musical tastes, but this shit has got to stop here. First they kill new music at K-Rock, the only station in New York that plays new rock music. Now another xeroxed, vapid, talentless singer has another number one album.

Thank god I have a music player with 4,600 songs in my car. I'm seriously considering getting a Sirius subscription. Satellite stations have much deeper playlists than regular radio, regardless of format.

Worst Album Covers EVAR!

There's a story in the British paper the Sun, Which you can see here, about the worst album covers of all time. They're all pretty bad, but these are my favorites.

Bay City Rollers Frontman Charged Over Cocaine

Bush: Less Popular Than Nixon During Watergate

Via Atrios, an American Research Group poll released today shows that George Bush has dropped to staggering new lows:

George W. Bush’s overall job approval ratings have dropped from a month ago even as Americans who approve of the way Bush is handling his job as president are turning more optimistic about their personal financial situations according to the latest survey from the American Research Group. Among all Americans, 36% approve of the way Bush is handling his job as president and 58% disapprove. When it comes to Bush’s handling of the economy, 33% approve and 62% disapprove.

Among Americans registered to vote, 38% approve of the way Bush is handling his job as president and 56% disapprove, and 36% approve of the way Bush is handling the economy and 60% disapprove.

For a little perspective, recall that Richard Nixon’s approval rating in the summer of 1973 (when the Watergate scandal was in full swing) was 39%.

Compared to Bush, that’s downright sunny.

New Punks Cover Old Punks

Get ready for a punk-rock education when the new Tony Hawk video game hits stores this fall.

Publisher Activision announced that the next video game in the hit skateboarding series — "Tony Hawk's American Wasteland" — will feature 14 classic punk songs covered by some of today's hottest punk and hardcore bands. My Chemical Romance will cover the Misfits' "Astro Zombies." Fall Out Boy will handle the Gorilla Biscuits' "Start Today." Other bands on the roster include Thursday, Taking Back Sunday and Alkaline Trio.

"Tony Hawk's American Wasteland" takes the series to a sprawling Los Angeles skate world styled after the punk scene of the '70s and '80s. The 14 covers will be featured in the game as well as on a soundtrack from Vagrant Records.

Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz said part of his band's enthusiasm for the project came from being able to teach a new generation about punk heroes like the band they covered, New York's legendary Gorilla Biscuits. "It's a band that we grew up on and thought was really cool," Wentz said. "It's definitely influenced Fall Out Boy, so it's definitely cool to be a stepping stone for that band for people to check them out."

The tracks were recorded earlier this summer while many of the bands were on the road. "A lot of the songs were being rehearsed during soundchecks for Warped Tour or wherever they would be," said Tim Riley, head of worldwide music for Activision.

"It's kind of weird," said My Chemical Romance's Mikey Way. "We all showed up at Warped Tour and everybody was kind of like, 'Yo, what song did you do?' "

Jumping on a "Tony Hawk" soundtrack was a natural for many of the bands, whose roots are in skateboarding. "For six, seven years of my life that's all I did was skateboard," said Thrice's Teppei Teranishi.

"We all grew up skateboarding," said Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio. "I don't know that we were ever very good."

But what some of the bands lacked in skateboarding skills they seemed to make up for in gaming ability. "A 'Tony Hawk' game has always been in our bus or van," said My Chemical Romance's Ray Toro. "In some way, shape or form, somebody's always playing it."

Toro's skill with the game may have even helped with his band's song for "American Wasteland." "When we were recording the song, I was actually picturing playing the game to the song," he said.

Toro isn't the only soundtrack performer with a jones for "Hawk." "Those were like some of the best games that have ever been made," Fall Out Boy's Joe Trohman said. "You could play them for hours upon end."

"You did, actually," bandmate Patrick Stump replied.

"I rule at them," Trohman said. "I'll challenge anyone."

Track listing for the "Tony Hawk's American Wasteland" soundtrack, according to Activision:

* Taking Back Sunday - The Descendents' "Suburban Home"/"I Like Food"
* Senses Fail - Suicidal Tendencies' "Institutionalized"
* Alkaline Trio - TSOL's "Wash Away"/"Beneath the Shadows"
* Emanuel - The Stooges' "Search and Destroy"
* Fall Out Boy - The Gorilla Biscuits' "Start Today"
* Thursday - The Buzzcocks' "Ever Fallen in Love?"
* From Autumn to Ashes - Fear's "Let's Have a War"
* Hot Snakes - Government Issue's "Time to Escape"
* Thrice - Minor Threat's "Seeing Red"/"Screaming at a Wall"
* Saves the Day - The Dead Boys' "Sonic Reducer"
* My Chemical Romance - The Misfits' "Astro Zombies"
* Rise Against - Black Flag's "Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie"/"Fix Me"
* Dropkick Murphys - The Adolescents' "Who Is Who"
* The Bled - Bad Brains' "House of Suffering"

A week in the woods

I'm going on vacation. I'll be in a tent for a week. We're going camping at Hershey Park. It's fun because you have the camping part and the amusement park part. There are showers and toilets, but we are sleeping in tents all week.

Then next sunday Me and the wife and another couple are going to NYC for an overnight trip where our goal is to spend $2,100 in 24 hours without buying jewelery or expensive stuff like that. We can only pay to do stuff, and buy food and drinks.

We've been saving money each week at bowling for the past two years, and now it's time to spend.

Yes, I bowl. I'm in a Sunday night league with my wife and this other couple. We do it as a guaranteed night out . We drink a lot and usually go out to eat afterwards. We do this thing where each person has to pay fifty cents for each frame where they don't get a strike or spare. So each couple ends up putting about $15 a week into the kitty and now the kitty is at $2,100.

So I'll be out of the loop for a week.

Have fun, stay safe! See you on the 27th!

Bombing in London, Breath holding in NYC

Was it just me, or was everyone holding their breath this morning form 8:30-9:00 Eastern waiting for something to happen in NYC after the London bombings?

I think I'm still pretty freaked out from 9/11. I was supposed to be in Manhattan that morning for a meeting and stopped in my office to pick up some papers and ended up on the phone and was delayed about a half an hour, thank god.

Plus my brother and his wife were living in the West Village at the time, which is also downtown for those who don't know NYC. That was scary at the time, because there were worries abot gas leaks and the possibility of more of lower Manhattan blowing up.

The World Series of Poker

You've probably seen bits of it on ESPN in the past. What you probably didn't know is that when ESPN shows it it's actually months atfer it really happens. It's going on right now.

There are over 30 different tournaments that make up the World Series, and there are a lot of great stories this year. Johnny Chan and Doyle Brunson, living legends in poker, have each won their 10th WSOP Championship bracelets.

Also, Jennifer Tilly won a Ladies event and Mr. Kotter came in second in one event. Now if we could get Ben Affleck and Phil Helmuth heads up at a final table.

Why MTV Sucks balls

It's not just the lack of creativity and the most narrow playlist in history. It's the ability to completely fuck up the broadcast of a huge set of concerts.

Everytime there was someone I wanted to see perform on the Live 8 shows, they showed 30 seconds and cut away. If they didn't cut away the idiot VJ's were talking over the performance.

MTV's day was the mid 80's. You're so far behind the curve it's not even funny.

It's over Johnny. Fuse owns your ass.
